Winter 2012 Letter
Blue Ridge Parents and Families,
We are in the homestretch before Winter Break. School will release Wednesday, December 19th at 1:30 and not resume until January 3rd. The staff at Blue Ridge extend their very warmest wishes to you for a safe and happy holiday season.
Holiday Music Concerts will be Decmber 17th at 1:00 pm for students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade, and December 18th at 1:00 pm for students in 3rd - 5th grades. We hope you can join us. Your children have been working hard to learn new songs for you to enjoy. There really is nothing better than children's voices singing!
I hope that parents and guardians of students in Kindergarten-2nd grade will join me for a Parent Luncheon on December 17th at 12:00 pm (that's prior to their concert). This is an opportunity for you to meet with me and enjoy a great lunch while talking to me about those things that matter most to you about your student's education. I really rely on parent feedback, and I cherish these times to get to know you and your families better.
Our gymnasium was recently completed and it is wonderful! Please feel free to visit sometime and take a look!
We are truly fortunate to be the recipients of a grant that provides our students with fresh fruits and vegetables three times per week in their classrooms. You would not believe the variety of foods your students are trying: kiwi, squash, pomegranates, clementines, and pluots (a cross between and apricot and a plum). Please ask your child what new fruits and vegetables they have tried recently. As a lifelong fitness buff, and someone who enjoys exercise and sports, I think these opporunities to cement healthy eating habits while children are young is so important!
Speaking of fruits and vegetables, we are working to start a community garden here at Blue Ridge. Other schools in Walla Walla have these gardens and the learning experiences that go along with growing their own fruits and vegetables is something I feel our Blue Ridge kids need too! We are in the planning stages, but I am looking for parents to volunteer, so please keep this in mind if you are someone who loves gardening. More information will be available to you as we progress toward this goal.
Thank you for continuing to be involved in your child's education. We're making great strides at Blue Ridge, and we cannot do what we do without you! Again, I wish you a happy holiday season.
