Spring, 2013 Letter

Dear Families-
We are rested and ready to finish the year after Spring Break. There are just about two months left in the school year, and we are as committed as ever to providing the very best education for your student as possible.
Exciting news! We were recently awarded an Excellence in Science award from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Washington State School Board. Wow! Your children have been working so hard to meet standards in Science and all other subjects. We will receive a banner for the school and a trophy. What an honor for that effort to be recognized.
Springtime is busy time for activities both out of school and in. We will be hosting the Blue Ridge Carnival on the 18th of April from 5:30-7:30. Staff has put in a lot of hard work to make this even fun. We sure hope you can join us! Also, we hosted motivational speaker and magician, Brad Barton on the 11th of April. Math team will compete this year on the 13th of April at Edison Elementary.
As happens every year, we will begin to assess student progress. Some students will take the MSP (Measure of Student Progress). We have also volunteered to "pilot" (or test and give feedback on) the new Smarter Balanced Assessment. It is going to be busy, but we have faith that our Blue Ridge students have what it takes to excel in all that they do. The ways you can help your student perform at their best during assessment season are easy 1. Set and earlier bedtime, 2. Limit TV and video game time, 3. avoid scheduling doctor and dental appointments during the testing window, 4. read with and to your child, 5. ask your child questions and have discussions about what they are learning. It is sure a team effort. We know you want your child to succeed as much as we do, and that makes for a great partnership - thank you!
Please know that you are always welcome at school. We have a great Morning Exercise time starting at 7:50 each day, please consider joining us. Also, we have posted the lunch schedule on the sidebar of the website. You are most welcome to eat lunch with your student. For everyone's safety, please always check in at the office.
Warmly,
Kim
