Principal's Message, December 2011
Greetings! I hope this message finds you happy and healthy. We are doing some great things at Blue Ridge, and I just had to share:
Recently we held our first annual Blue Ridge Carnival. What a fabulous event! Attendance was great, and over $800.00 was raised.Special thanks to event organizers Berta Herrera-Trejo and Ruben Hernandez for making this happen!
Our 5th graders visited the Walla Walla Foundry to learn more about the process of creating sculpture and art. Much preparation went into their visit - students study local artists so that their visit is not only meaningful but that they understand the importance of art in our world. If you are the parent or guardian of a 5th grader, please ask them about their visit to the foundry.
I hope you can join us for your student's Holiday concert on the 16th of December. Blue Ridge kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade work hard to prepare songs for your enjoyment. If you need to know the times your student(s) will be performing, please check out the front page of our website.
Coats, gloves, and hats are necessary during the cold weather of winter, please make sure your student comes to school dressed appropriately. If you need help providing proper winter clothing, please do not hesitate to contact the school and we will be happy to put you in touch with those who can help.
Winter Break is almost upon us. It is so important that students continue to read during break. I urge you to set aside time for reading in your home and make daily reading an expectation. Mid-year testing begins when we return to school in January, it is helpful to your child to have daily contact with books and reading, and their test scores will most certainly prove that. You can further this crucial learning by not only reading with your child, but by asking them questions to check that they understand what they are reading. It may be the most important, rewarding, and long-lasting gift you can give your child this holiday season!
As always, your involvement is truly something we cannot do without. Thank you for making your child's learning a priority!
