Blue Ridge Students and Families-

Welcome back for the 2016-17 school year. I hope that you have had a wonderful summer full of rest and relaxation. I was able to take some time to spend with my family and with friends, and I am ready and excited to begin the school year.

Here are some highlights from over the summer and some exciting things for the 2016-17school year that I want to share with you.

We are re-instating our PTA. I do hope you can join us for our fist meeting, September 19th. I think empowering parents and families to help us at Blue Ridge is key, and I think having an active PTA is a great way to welcome parent and family involvement. I want parents and families to feel welcome. I want you to be a stakeholder in your child's experience here at Blue Ridge. We need your help. From planning activities, to hosting much needed fundraisers, to helping with book fairs and a variety of other things - we need you here! We need your voices!

I have had the great fortune to be able to hire four outstanding teachers to our building: Heidi Cohan (4th grade), Felipe Virrueta (4th grade), Amy Kasenga (5th grade), and Melinda Magnaghi (3rd grade). Having these talented people join our already wonderful staff, I can assure you that your child's learning is being delivered by the best!

Our building is looking great. We are truly fortunate to have some of the hardest working support staff I have ever seen. Our custodians have cleaned every inch of our building, and it sparkles! If you see one of our custodians, please extend your thanks - they truly make your child's learning environment a clean and safe place. In addition, we have had our technology staff working in the building to add ceiling mounted projectors, and upgrading the network wiring. The technology department is truly intent on making 21st century learning happen for our kids. We thank them. I would also like to note the hard work our head secretary, Gracie Cortez does every day (but especially over this summer) to keep us running smoothly. Thank you, Gracie.

Once again, thank you for being part of our Blue Ridge family. It is an honor to work with both you and your children. I greatly look forward to seeing you this school year!

Warmly,
Kim Doepker, principal
